When there is a criticizing voice present there is very likely a part of us that feels criticized and vice versa, when there is a part of us that feels
less than in anyway it’s because there is a voice inside saying we should feel less than.
When we are aware that one part is present it can be very helpful to start listening for the other.
In Focusing we say it like this:
"I’m sensing something in me that is criticizing
and I’m sensing something in me that feels criticized- it believes the criticism."
For example,
"I’m sensing something in me that says I’m a bad parent and
I’m
also sensing something in me that agrees with the criticisms.
That part of me feels like a failure as a mom--it succumbs to the criticism." So acknowledge both of those, “yes both these parts are present and I can say hello to both of them.”
Next, begin to take time to see how to best be with
both of those parts without judgment, or analyzing just accepting that both of these are present.
Then continue to following the Focusing process. Focusing is a process of listening deeply with loving kindness and compassion to create a sense of resolution and forward-going energy in your life.
